For the past twenty years, Tom has been a member of the Ventura County Sheriff's Upper Ojai Search and Rescue Team. In this capacity, he enjoys speaking to students and local service clubs about the dangers of swift water and surviving in the wilderness. Many awards have been given to Tom, including the Higgins & Langley Outstanding Achievement in Swift Water Rescue, the Medal of Merit for Swift Water Rescue by the Ventura Sheriff's Department.
Tom is married to his high school sweetheart, Rita. They have been married 43 years. His sons, Troy and Todd and their families live in the Ojai Valley area, which makes Tom and Rita very happy grandparents.
Tom currently serves as Senior Vice President/Senior Business Development Officer for the Los Padres Bank of Ventura County. In 2008, he joined Troop Realty in Ojai as an Associate Broker.
Professionally, Tom has spent the entirety of his career in the local area. In 1974, he was named executive vice president for the Ojai Valley Bank and sat as a member of the board of directors. During his tenure he led the bank's growth from $2 million to $80 million. In 2006, Ojai Valley Bank was bought by Mid-State Bank and Tom became Mid-State's vice president of corporate banking. The California Bankers Association voted Tom as their Outstanding Banker and he is a founder of the Robert Morris Associates Group, as well as a past member of the Ojai Valley Redevelopment Agency. In 2008, Tom retired to take his current positions.
Tom graduated from Ventura High School in 1965 and attended both Ventura College and Santa Barbara City College. He is a graduate of the California Banking School, University of San Diego, and the University of Oklahoma Installment and Commercial Lending School.
Community service is very important to Tom. He is past president of the Ojai Valley Chamber of Commerce, a Charter member of the Ojai Rotary Club and a Charter member of the Ojai Valley Youth Employment Agency who awarded him their Living Treasure of Ojai Valley.
Tom is a Vietnam Veteran and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Tom is still active in many civic organizations, and in his spare time, enjoys outdoor activities.
